Concrete Jungle {1}

So pretty much these next posts will be for Janae.  Only she will think they're are funny.

Once upon a time, Janae and I headed to New York.
There is a good chance we are the most casual vacation planners ever.
We got to the airport and are trying to check our luggage.  The guy asks as where we are flying into.  All I know is that we were not flying into JFK, so I assumed we were going to LaGuardia.  The guy asks us where we are going through.  We just stare at him stupidly.  HUH?  "Where is your layover?" he tries again.  Uhh...we don't have one.  He informs us that they do not have a direct flight to LaGuardia.  He then asked if we have an itinerary.  Yeah right.  We have no clue where we are going, so why on earth would be have an itinerary? We finally figure out that we are going to Newark.  So New Jersey here we come!  The guy that helped us thought we were the biggest idiots.  Perhaps with good reason.

We finally board the plane and find ourselves sitting next to our new best friend.
For the first half of the flight I sat by her.  Before the plane took off I got to reset her watch for her.
Then she made sure that I put on my seatbelt way before the fact.  During the flight she ordered a sandwich, ate half of it, and then demanded a refund.  Janae and I were dying.  We were mad we didn't think of that.

Once we arrived we had to figure out how to get to our hotel.
Luckily the friendliest person we met while we were there helped us figure out directions.  We thought we understood and went out to wait for the bus to the train station.  Except for when we got out there we had no clue what we were doing.
The first bus comes and it has the right number on it.  Janae starts to get on and the driver asks where we're going.  Janae says, "I don't know.  Ask her."  Bus driver was not amused.  Turns out it was the wrong bus anyway.
Bus number two comes and it was the right one.  However, we don't know how to work the bus system unless it's the Aggie Shuttle.  So we bought a few too many tickets...
By the time we get to the back of the bus with all of our stuff and our way too many tickets, we are laughing so hard.

So we are cruisin' through the ghetto of New Jersey on a bus that we have no idea when to get off of.  We notice how out of place we are, when this conversation takes place:
N:  We are the only white people on the bus.
J:  That's why we're in the back.

We finally get to the train station and once again have no clue where we are going.  We figure it out without too much trouble, but then we have bigger problems.  It is rush hour and there are people everywhere going 100 mph all around us.  We have our suitcases and the stupid turnstiles in front of us.  It was not a good combination.  We of course laughed our heads off while everyone else was ticked.

What seems like a million hours later, but actually wasn't that long, we make it to our hotel.  Our hotel room is this little tiny closet, or it may as well have been.  It worked for us though.  All we needed to do was sleep there.

Our first official stop in NYC was Little Italy.
And we ate delicious food :)

After that we went to the Empire State Building where we waited in the longest line ever.  UGH.  It was so deceiving.  We would see the beginning of the line, but then we'd get to the front and walk for a second only to come upon another line.  This happened way too many times.
(Clearly this was taken before we knew what we'd gotten ourselves into.)
Eventually (hours later) we got to the top and it was actually really cool.
While we were up there, we thought every bridge we saw was the Brooklyn Bridge.
Don't worry though, after a quick stop at McDonald's for some ice cream served by the most unenthusiastic employee ever, we laid in bed and had a geography lesson, because obviously all of the bridges can't be the Brooklyn Bridge.

So much excitement/entertainment and that's only day one!
