Concrete Jungle {4}

Let's call this the sweatiest day of my life.  It was so hot and humid.  I couldn't remember the last time I wasn't sweaty.

Canal street was the first stop of the day.
It was just fantastic.
The first store we went in took us to the back.
As we were going out, the guy is calling up front to make sure there weren't cops around.  He got the signal that we were good to go, but Janae got sidetracked by a purse and wasn't paying attention.  The guy started yelling, really yelling at us, to get out.  Good times.
In the first store we were a little nervous, but then we learned how to bargain and were champions.
Maybe when we got back to our hotel we had 12 purses between the two of us.  Good thing that I brought an empty suitcase to New York just for purses.
We laid out all of the purses so we could admire them.
We also ranked them in order of our favorites.
And we stressed about which purses we were giving away.
It was a big/hard decision.

We went to Times Square to get our broadway tickets and ate lunch.
All of the subway lines that we need to go to our next place were closed for construction.  It was so frustrating.  It didn't help that it was a million degrees outside.
We finally made it to our next destination, only to find out that we had just missed the last tour.  UGH.  We were in the Meat Packing District, so we wandered around that area for a little bit.  And I made Janae stop at every little vendor on the street.  She loved it.

Then we went to the Financial District.

The next thing that we did was my second favorite part of the trip.
We biked across the Brooklyn Bridge.
We rented bikes from a place on the pier.  The rental guys loved us.  At first when they found out we were from Utah, they were shouting, "OOOTS!"  We told them we were Aggies though, so they kept yelling out, "Go AGGIES!"
Getting to the bridge on our bikes was quite the adventure.  We rode on the sidewalk most of the time, but at one point we had to ride in the middle of the street.  I did not like that at all.  There's a chance we were screaming a little bit.  Then the signs were very misleading and we almost started biking across the bridge down with all of the cars.  Pretty sure we would have died.  We were laughing so hard.  We finally got on the right part of the bridge and rode our bikes above the cars, which was much better.  It was so cool to see the entire city from the bridge.
We biked around Brooklyn for a bit, but then we were hot, sweaty, and hungry so we went back across the bridge.  We wanted some New York pizza for dinner.  NOTHING was open.  It was a Saturday night, about 8 o'clock, and we couldn't find any restaurants that were open.
We were meeting one of Janae's co-workers later, so we thought we'd head that way and find something to eat first.  Once again, nothing was open.  We finally found a California Pizza Kitchen and ate there.  Embarrassing that we ate there in New York?  Maybe.  Did we care?  NO!  We were starving and nothing was open where we were.

After dinner, we went to Serendipity for some delicious dessert, where we met Janae's friend.
We would have eaten dinner there, but we would have had to wait for another hour and that was out of the question at that point.  While we were there, the clock hit midnight, and Janae turned 24.
Happy Birthday Janae!
